News | 23-11-05 Evening dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Archpriest Tikhon Pelikh

On Wednesday evening, November 23, 2005, Archimandrite Zacchaeus, Dean of St. Catherine the Great Martyr Church participated in an evening dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Archpriest and Elder Tikhon Pelikh, held at Holy Transfiguration Church. The event, which consisted of the celebration of a panikhida followed by recounting events from Father Tikhon’s life, told by his spiritual children, was sponsored by Archpriest Nicholas Krechetov, dean of the Zamoskvorechie Deanery, and son-in-law of the late Elder Tikhon. Other clergy in attendance at the event included Archpriests Valerian Krechetov, Vladimir Vorobiov, Arkady Shatov among others. The church was filled to capacity with laypeople that knew Father Tikhon from their own lives or through the books and articles written about him. An added joy for the participants was the possibility to listen to a live recording of one of Elder Tikhon’s last divine services, played on an audiocassette.

Elder Tikhon, who served for thirty years as a parish priest in Zagorsk, now Sergiev Posad, was revered as a holy elder during his life, and continues to be implored for help by his numerous spiritual children.
