News | 11-05-08 Executive Director of the Fund for Assistance to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia visits St. Catherine the Great Martyr Church

On the Sunday of the Holy Myrrh-bearing Women, May 11, 2008, Archpriest Victor Potapov, the Rector of St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Washington, DC and the Executive Director of the Fund for Assistance to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia visited the Moscow Representation of the Orthodox Church in America – St. Catherine the Great Martyr Church.

By invitation of the parish Dean, Archimandrite Zacchaeus, Archpriest Victor concelebrated the Divine Liturgy with the parish clergy. In addition, during the Liturgy, Father Victor offered a moving homily on the important role of women in the Orthodox Church especially following the example of the Myrrh-bearing Women in proclaiming the Truth of Christ’s Holy Resurrection to the outside world.

Following the Divine Liturgy, Archimandrite Zacchaeus welcomed Archpriest Victor to the parish and presented him with the traditional sign of the Pascha, an Easter egg decorated with an icon of Christ’s Holy Resurrection.

An added blessing for the parish faithful was the presence of an 18^th Century icon of the Holy Myrrh-bearing Women in the center of the temple which was donated to the parish by the servant of God, Alexander.
