News | 07-10-04 Fresco of the Holy Prophet Micah uncovered at St.Catherine the Great Martyr Church

During the current renovations of the newly returned trapeznaya portion of the church, a fresco of the Holy Prophet of God Micah was unexpectedly revealed. This fresco, painted by an unknown artist is preserved in an extremely good state, despite the fact that it was covered by several layers of paint dating back to the closure of the church in the 1930 s.

In commenting about this almost miraculous uncovering, the Dean of the church, Archimandrite Zacchaeus stated, It is more than coincidental that it was precisely a fresco of the Holy Prophet Micah that was revealed to us at St. Catherine s during our renovation of the newly returned portion of the temple to the church for liturgical use. The Prophet Micah in his own time was stern defender of pure worship of the Lord and also of hope for the future. These two qualities sum up the return of the trapeznaya portion of the church from the Grabar Art Restoration Institute. It is indeed pure worship that the clergy and faithful will try to preserve in the newly returned part of the church, and with hope for the future they eagerly await the return of the entire building by the agreed date of December 30, 2004.
