News | 15-08-10 Funeral Service for the Newly Departed Hierodeacon Makary at Sretensky Monastery

On Sunday, August 15, 2010, after returning earlier than scheduled to Moscow from the United States, Archimandrite Zacchaeus, Representative of the Orthodox Church in America to the Moscow Patriarchate joined Archimandrite Tikhon, Abbot together with the monastic brotherhood of Moscow’s Sretensky Monastery in bidding a brother monk, Hierodeacon Makary farewell from this world.

The newly departed Hierodeacon Makary was a dear friend of St Catherine the Great Martyr Church – the Moscow Representation of the Orthodox Church in America and due to his fluency in English, concelebrated frequently at English services at the parish. Also, Father Makary, who was friends with Father Zacchaeus since their time spent together at the Monastery of the Caves in Pskov nearly 20 years ago, would make it a point to participate in various activities and services in addition to the English language ones celebrated at St Catherine the Great Martyr Church.
