On Friday evening, March 4, 2011, Archimandrite Zacchaeus, Representative of the Orthodox Church in America to the Moscow Patriarchate met with a delegation of the Georgian Orthodox Church which was visiting Moscow to hold discussions with officials of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The Georgian delegation was led by His Eminence, Metropolitan GERASIM of Zugdidi and Tsaishi, the Chairman of the Georgian Orthodox Church’s Foreign Affairs Department, and included Archpriest George Kharazashvili, staff member of the department; and Mr. Zurab I. Abashidze, former Georgian diplomat to Russia.
During the course of the meeting, Archimandrite Zacchaeus had the possibility of sharing information about the current situation within the Orthodox Church in America to Metropolitan GERASIM and the other representatives of the Orthodox Church in America. In turn, Metropolitan GERASIM stated that the fondest memories of the visit of His Beatitude, Metropolitan JONAH of All America and Canada to the Church of Georgia remain in the minds of His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, ILIA II and the bishops and clergy who received the delegation of the Orthodox Church in America. Likewise, Metropolitan GERASIM assured Father Zacchaeus of the prayers and support of the Georgian Orthodox Church for His Beatitude, Metropolitan JONAH, the Holy Synod of Bishops, the clergy, monastics and laity of the Orthodox Church in America.
