| 31-10-06 Head of the Moscow Protestant Chaplaincy visits St. Catherine the Great Martyr Church
On Tuesday, October 31, 2006 , Pastor Robert Bronkema, an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church of the United States of America and head of the Moscow Protestant Chaplaincy of Moscow visited St. Catherine the Great Martyr Church – the Representation of the Orthodox Church in America to the Moscow Patriarchate.
During the course of his visit, Pastor Robert, who has been newly appointed to lead the Moscow Protestant Chaplaincy, was able to learn about the life and activities of St. Catherine the Great Martyr Church during a meeting with the parish Dean, Archimandrite Zacchaeus. In turn, Father Zacchaeus learned more about the Protestant Chaplaincy and its history which began in the 1962 by a diplomatic agreement between the United States of America and the (then) Soviet Union.
A point of common interest between St. Catherine Church and the Moscow Protestant Chaplaincy is ministry to children of mixed race parents through the organization METIS. It was agreed that the children who have been baptized as Orthodox Christians should be given the opportunity to learn more about their faith and be able to worship in an Orthodox parish, including of course, St. Catherine the Great Martyr Church. Various ways in which St. Catherine the Great Martyr Church and the Protestant Chaplaincy could work together in aiding the children of mixed races receive the necessary physical and spiritual support they need was also discussed during the very fruitful meeting between Father Zacchaeus and Pastor Robert.
