News | 01-10-10 Historic Hierarchical Walking Stick Presented to St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral

Following his recent trip to Chicago, Illinois, where Archimandrite Zacchaeus, Representative of the Orthodox Church in America to the Moscow Patriarchate, with the blessing of His Beatitude, Metropolitan JONAH of All America and Canada helped the Diocese of the Midwest locate and identify for proper distribution, items of the ever-memorable Archbishop Job (Osacky), an Episcopal Walking Stick, formerly belonging to Archbishop Dositheus (Ivanchenko), the Patriarchal Exarch to North and South America in the 1960’s and gifted to the Archbishop Job in the 1980’s was presented to the Museum at St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral in New York City.

The walking stick, which has become a significant artifact in the history of Orthodoxy in North America, being used by so many great figures in the Russian Orthodox Church and then the Orthodox Church in America will now, with the blessing of His Eminence, Archbishop JUSTINIAN of Naro-Fominsk and Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA be housed in a museum created by his predecessor, Bishop MERCURY in 2002 to preserve and collect documents and other artifacts to preserve an accurate history of St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Patriarchal Cathedral and the North American Mission of the Russian Orthodox Church.
