On Monday morning, April 27, 2009, His Beatitude, Metropolitan JONAH of All America and Canada together with the delegation of the Orthodox Church in America accompanying him on his first official trip to the Russian Orthodox Church arrived at the main gates of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra in Sergiev Posad where they were met by His Eminence, Archbishop EVGENY of Vereia and Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy and Seminary together with His Eminence, Archbishop FEOGNOST of Sergiev-Posad and Abbot of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra as well as the monastic brotherhood.
After the formal greeting, the Primate of the Orthodox Church in America was led to the holy relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh where he was able venerate them and offer prayers before this great intercessor.
Following the veneration of the relics of St. Sergius, His Beatitude was offered a tour of the Lavra and its museum. Once the tour of the Lavra was completed, Metropolitan JONAH presented the Moscow Theological Academy and Seminary with Orthodox Study Bibles in the English Language on behalf of the Orthodox Church in America. |
