News | 09-06-08 Intensive Restoration work begins at St. Catherine the Great Martyr Church

On Monday, June 9, 2008, Archimandrite Zacchaeus, Dean and Priest Daniel Lugovoi, cleric of St. Catherine the Great Martyr Church inspected the preparatory work done within the cupola of the temple that will allow for the frescoes to be restored to their original beauty. The preparatory work consisted of washing the walls of the cupola and removing paint that hid the 18^th and 19^th century frescoes.

Once it was determined which frescoes were restorable and which needed to be painted anew, the artists invited the clergy to inspect their work and to give a blessing to begin intensive work on the actual restoration of the frescoes that were uncovered. It is expected that the work on the cupola will be completed in time for the celebration of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos on August 28, 2008.
