| 29-03-07 International Conference in honor of the 900th Anniversary of Igumen Daniel’s pilgrimage to the Holy Land held at the Pilgrimage Center of the Russian Orthodox Church
On Thursday, March 29, 2007, Archimandrite Zacchaeus, Representative of the Orthodox Church in America to the Moscow Patriarchate, participated in the International Conference in honor of the 900th Anniversary of Igumen Daniel’s pilgrimage to the Holy Land jointly sponsored by the Department of External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church; the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society; the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Science; and the Pilgrimage Center of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The Conference, entitled, “Not to forget that, which showed me God” drew presenters and participants including religious and political leaders from Russia, Byelorussia, Germany, Poland, Italy, Greece, Great Britain, Ukraine and the United States of America. The conference was opened with the reading of the official greetings of His Holiness, Patriarch ALEKSY of Moscow and All Russia and the chaired by His Grace, Bishop MARK of Egorev who introduced His Eminence, Metropolitan KYRILL of Smolensk and Kaliningrad and Chairman of the Department of External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church to present the first lecture of the day. His Eminence’s lecture, which was entitled, “Igumen Daniel and his entrance into the Russian Church tradition (theological, historical and liturgical aspects)” was received with great interest by all participants.
Following the first lecture by Metropolitan KYRILL, various scholars presented lectures on different aspects of Igumen Daniel’s pilgrimage – the very first for a Russian cleric – to the Holy Land 900 years ago. The conference will continue until Friday, March 30, 2007.
